Expect Nothing

Alive with laughter,
smiles flow freely,
compliments glimmer like stars,  Something stirs,
a subtle disquiet beneath the facade,
a whisper dances,
just out of sight.
Chatter swirls like a warm familiar tide,
sensing something isn't right,
Joy is fragile,
ready to fray,
and every laugh hides an unspoken fight.
Eyes gleam,
behind them lies echoes of stories, burdens concealed deep.
There’s a strange comfort in this embrace,
an undercurrent pulls at my heart with insistence,
For within the brilliance of laughter and cheer,
lies a truth that is quiet,
too profound to ignore,
but too loud to hear.
In a paradox I linger,
both bright and dim,
where joy wears a mask and sorrow learns to dance,
Expecting nothing,
appreciation plenty.
A space between moments,
where silence can dwell,
a connection,
or deception,
my heart's under your spell.
